When I finish spending my hard earned money on stuff, I don't want to hear about how awesome your store credit card is and hear a whole speech about it...I also don't want to give out any unnecessary information like my zip code. A consumer watchdog says most people think that giving your zip is needed to complete a credit card purchase but is irrelevant when making in-store purchases.
They say stores use the zip to combine with addresses, phonenumbers so other specific details can be traced. This information is then added to a database or shared with third parties. They use that info to send junk mail…. and make marketing calls. So the next time a cashier asks you for your zip code when checking out...simply decline or do what I do...give them a fake one. :)
